Wiggle Room – The opportunity to make alternative decisions or to pursue other courses of action, especially any involving only minor changes to one’s present situation or course. – Wiktionary
Wiggle Room allows for flexibility and latitude to maneuver or alter previous decisions and intended actions. Key to living flexible is developing a mindset of expectancy and curiosity. Such a mindset keeps us resourceful when life throws us a curve. In all unexpected circumstances there are options. Some options depend upon how we govern our emotions, others require mental agility and still others require physical dexterity. Some require all three.
As we push our way into 2020, wiggle room will become more and more necessary. Remember all the times last year when living tightly scheduled didn’t run smoothly? Ever noticed people beside you reaching out to people near you? Giving God space to work in our lives when we’re in a rush may strip our gears. But living flexible enough to shift gears as necessary will make 2020 a better year. Living uptight gives God little to work with, when life goes off the rails of predictability.
Jesus lived flexible enough to stop the crowd when He heard a blind man call out for mercy. Going with the crowd that day would not have allowed the luxury of healing a commoner. But Jesus never went with the crowd and certainly not with the flow. Jesus saw opportunities where even His followers saw obstacles. In His relationship with His Father there was always wiggle room. He resourced opportunities that others walked past. He saw needs as opportunities.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll zero in on the options seized by various champions of faith. Here’s a famous verse we quote but rarely live. Just talking to myself. Give it a read and come back next week for a little more 2020 therapy.
Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.
