Part 4: LISTEN TO THE GOD WHO PERCEIVES YOUR EVERY MOVE,

THOUGHT, WORDS AND STEPS.

The Passion Bible, though more of a paraphrase than a translation, gives us a fresh view of the more familiar translations of Psalm 139:1-5. The first time I read it, it gave me a fresh perspective and engaged my imagination. It’s the source of the title of Part 4 in this series.

Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.

You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past.

Psalm 139:1-5 Passion Bible

I encourage you to also read the Amplified and New International versions. Now let’s get down to business. Bottom line: God knows everything there is to know about us, But we don’t! God reveals what’s really in our heart through His Word. The writer of Hebrews gives us a fresh understanding and motivation for studying God’s Word.

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find graces to help in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:12 & 16 NIV

Mercy must be our daily portion! Reading scripture is dangerous unless we hunger for the motives of our thinking to be exposed. In an instant God has a way of revealing the true motives behind the way our heart thinks, makes decisions and displays emotions!

Without the Word of God our heart (mind, will & emotions) is deceitful! “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Jeremiah 17:9 NIV

Never seen that verse on anyone’s living room wall!

The Good News is that in Christ we have the power to change the way our heart thinks, makes decisions and emotes! Giving God space in our heart to make course corrections and attitude adjustments should be our daily priority. Again, God knows everything there is to know about us. He stands by ready to reveal what we need to hear. He expects us to come to Him with confidence rather than arrogance. In our humility we find His grace. Our God is not a part-time God. Neither should we be a part-time listener.  Remember, He knows everything there is to know about us. Therefore: Be quick to listen and slow to speak and slow to become angry!

LISTEN TO THE GOD WHO PERCEIVES YOUR EVERY MOVE, THOUGHT, WORDS AND STEPS.
