In His final hours just before the crucifixion, Jesus taught His followers about the Holy Spirit (Read John 14, 15 & 16). Whenever the Holy Spirit brings conviction, it is not only about sin, but about Faith, Righteousness & Victory.

But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor (meaning the Holy Spirit -my explanation) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. Meditate on these verses from John 16:7-11

Let’s break this down. Different words in John 14,15 & 16 refer directly to the Holy Spirit. Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as teacher, guide, comforter, counselor as well as not leaving his disciples as orphans (fatherless). The Holy Spirit is purposed to be to new believers as Jesus was to his disciples. He fathered them, counseled them, lead them, taught them and guided them.

It is to our advantage that He sent the Holy Spirit to bring conviction of three things:

#1 CONVICTION OF SIN

why? “…because men do not believe in me”

What happens when we believe in Jesus? Faith! Thus the Holy Spirit brings a conviction of sin so that we can live with a conviction of Faith. Without faith it is impossible to  please God (Hebrews 11:6)    Living with a Conviction of Faith is to our advantage.

#2 CONVICTION OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

why?

Because Jesus went to His Father and shed His blood on the Mercy Seat of Heaven for the remission of sin. We become righteous in Christ because of His finished work. This conviction is critically important.

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” II Corinthians 5:21 NKJV

Living with a Conviction of Righteousness is to our advantage.

#3 CONVICTION OF JUDGMENT

why?

Not because we are being judged but because the devil has been judged. Jesus defeated Satan. We are more than conquerors through Jesus. We have victory over Satan. Paul instructs us to “put on the whole armor, of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11 NKJ

Living with a Conviction of Victory is to our advantage.

It is to our advantage to maintain Convictions of Faith, Righteousness & Victory. These are Holy Spirit convictions of who we are in Christ. The Holy Spirit works in us to maintain these convictions. Are you walking daily in the Conviction of Faith, Righteousness and Victory? The Holy Spirit convicts us of truth to walk in, not just of sin to walk away from. The Holy Spirit is with us to ‘father us through our entire life’.

Jesus doesn’t leave us as orphans.
