WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BREAK RANK

Generally, it’s when we change who the authority over our life is!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO GO A.W.O.L.?

Generally, it’s when we desert one authority for another authority.

WHAT DO THEY BOTH MEAN IN THIS SERIES OF “NOW MATTERS” DEVOTIONS?

Specifically, when we promote Jesus to be Lord of our life, we take our foot off the gas pedal

and give Him total control. We turn in our way of authoring our life and make Him the supreme author, forever. In this case, we desert a lesser authority for the greater authority, Jesus!

Let’s go deeper:

First: Understand breaking rank does not begin with outward actions.

Secondly: Understand that breaking rank begins with an inward decision to make Jesus Lord.

In Mark 1:16-20, Jesus saw some brothers casting nets and called after them to follow Him.

They left everything, nets included, and followed Jesus. He would reproduce Himself both in them and through them! They would, however, still be uniquely who God intended them to be  before time began. Wrap your mind around the fact, that in God’s mind, we are like ancient history! Making Jesus Lord of our lives, gives Him authority to author His original plan in us, as planned.

In Mark One, we also find that Jesus’ followers listened to Him teach. Their response?  Awesome! Why? Because Jesus taught with authority. The word ‘Authority’ originally meant “to author something”. Jesus’ words, spoken 2,000 years ago, authored not only His calling in His followers, but His authority advanced their uniqueness! The authority of God’s Word is life-producing and powerful. It discerns the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts. Change happens!

Thinking like Jesus is revolutionary. In my life, inferiority had wrecked everything that God intended me to pursue. Inferior thinking caused me to make second best choices, hang out with mediocre people and activities that did nothing to move me toward God’s purpose for my life.

BUT THE AUTHORITY OF HIS WORD IN MY LIFE TRANSFORMED ME TO BE THE REAL ME! (personality and all!)
